My review:
Tired of today’s PC mentality? Tired of leftist agendas infiltrating every aspect of our lives? Most of all, are you tired of the expulsion of common sense from everyday mentality? If so, you’re not the only one. Join the club of Jonah Peleus.
Jonah is frustrated and exhausted from all of the above. He uses this book and the poetry in it to speak his mind freely. No punches are pulled and like the great boxer Roy Jones Jr in his prime, he goes at it from round (page) 1:
Green is green, blue is blue.
One plus one is two.
…
Reality doesn’t change based on the “la la” in your head.
This is a cry for normality from the depths of an existence. A cry that wants to shatter the noose slowly tightening around our thoughts:
But why play the game they want to play…
Let’s not kid ourselves,
Isn’t anyone else weary of packaged words?
The bar is set high from the opening bell. Usually fighters that come out swinging lose steam by round 7 – and then it’s easy pickings. But Jonah is unrelenting. He’s no phoney boxer like Conor McGregor. There’s a mission to be accomplished and no time to be wasted. Rest will come at the end.
The book comprises four parts, each dedicated to a primary pillar of our civilisation: wisdom, goodness, beauty, and truth. As he laments the erosion of these pillars and lambastes some of the reasons behind them, he might sometimes, just like Roy Jones, pause for a second from his onslaught and look at the referee to ask if more is needed to win the fight. But his look says more than just that. It is intense: heartache mixed with concern and hope. Is this onslaught really necessary? Will it do anything to change the tide? It may or it may not, but at this present moment it is something that needs to be done. If not for the world, then for himself – a form of catharsis and purgation to alleviate any impending loss of sanity.
Reading the poems you will feel the heavy punches dealt by Jonah. But you will also feel his heartache, concern, and flame of hope. You will feel all this because he is undoubtedly a talented writer. A writer who is both creative and precise in his descriptions – beautiful traits to possess for a poet. If not for the gravity of the matter being discussed, I would say that it is a pleasure to read his poems, just like it is a pleasure sometimes to witness true boxers in the ring.
And even if watching a fighter isn’t a thing for you (it doesn’t need to be) this book can and should be read by everybody. Jonah states clearly that he’s a Christian, but he also states distinctly that he’s writing for all humanity. This is because we’re all human and therefore equal in the most profound of ways. We especially all crave wisdom, goodness, beauty, and truth – and so any attack on these is an attack on us all. Read his book if, like Jonah, you need to vent some frustration or if you just want to know that you’re not alone in the fight against the world that appears to be going mad.
